Guided Reef Snorkel: One Hour off West Bay or West End
The reef begins a few fin-kicks from the sand in West Bay, which is why this is the outing we suggest for your first afternoon on the island. One hour in the water, a guide who knows which coral heads are healthiest that day, and everything you need already fitted before you wade in.
Roatán lies on the Mesoamerican Reef — second in size only to Australia's — and the shallows here hold more than 500 species of fish, with sea turtles passing through regularly. The instructor stays in the water with the group the whole time, so first-timers and children get the same hour as confident swimmers.
Departures from West Bay or West End, $50 per person, all ages welcome. It fits easily into a cruise-ship day and works for guests staying anywhere between West Bay and French Harbour.
