Pigeon Cay Day Trip: Nurse Sharks, a Wreck and a White-Sand Cay
Save this one for a full day of your stay. If you're in West Bay we pick you up at your apartment or hotel, and by nine in the morning you're on the boat heading out along the reef toward cays that most visitors to Roatán never reach.
The route builds up through the day: a snorkel over a sunken wreck now colonised by fish, a shallow bank where starfish rest on the sand, a slow run through a mangrove channel, and lunch in the small community of Santa Elena. Then comes the reason people book it — Pigeon Cay, a speck of white sand and clear water where nurse sharks and stingrays glide past you in a calm, guided swim. Every stop sits on the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest reef system on the planet.
The shared boat sails on Wednesdays and Saturdays at $215 per person, or take the whole boat privately for up to 5 people at $1,400. Children aged 6 and under pay half.
