Mangroves, Monkeys & the Quiet Side of Roatán
Almost everyone who visits Roatán stays on the west end. This trip goes the other way, toward Jonesville and the quiet half of the island most people never see.
You start with half an hour among the animals, then keep going by road until the pavement runs out and a small boat takes over. Fifteen minutes later you are inside the mangroves: saltwater channels roofed by branches, narrow enough in places that the boat barely fits, with the engine down to a murmur and herons lifting off ahead of you.
There is time to get in the water, buy a cold coconut from the little stands, and take the long way home through Punta Gorda if you feel like it. One price covers everyone in the vehicle, whether you are travelling alone or six of you.

How the day goes
- Pickup at your hotel We come to you and bring you back — round trip, included in the price.
- 30 minutes at the animal park Entrance is covered. Enough time to see the animals without rushing.
- On the road to Jonesville We keep going east by vehicle, away from the resort strip.
- Fifteen minutes by boat A local captain takes you from the dock into the mangrove channels.
- Time in the mangroves Swim if you want to. There are stands selling food, cold drinks and coconut water.
- Punta Gorda on the way back — your call Want to stop in Roatán's oldest community? Say the word. It costs nothing extra.
